The Long Island Immigrant Alliance (LIIA) applauds President Obama’s commitment to reforming our antiquated immigration policies.   LIIA calls on all of our local law-makers, federal, state, county executives and legislators to unequivocally condemn our fractured immigration system.  Our elected officials must  publicly call for just and humane immigration reform that at minimum reconciles the status of  immigrants who are here, facilitates family reunification, promotes rationale future flows, and that enhances the skills of all workers skills while protecting their rights regardless of nativity.

According to LIIA Chairperson Nadia Marin-Molina, "Over 500,000 Long Islanders are foreign born. Just like the Irish, Italian, and Jewish immigrants before them, immigrants today strive for success in an atmosphere that is often tainted by misunderstanding and xenophobia. Immigrants want to be part of America.  Let’s recognize, support, and celebrate the great contributions Long Island immigrants make”.

LIIA continues to reach-out to all stakeholders who are interested in practical solutions, that uphold our nation’s values, and move us forward together.  Together let’s build a Long Island that is inclusive, that affirms the dignity of all residents, that enhances our contributions, and that provides equal opportunities to enjoy our collective prosperity.
